“Dream big, work hard, and serve the nation with pride.” The Passing Out Parade (POP) of the 148th Course of the National Defence Academy (NDA) on 30 May 2025 will forever be written in golden letters in the history of Indian defence forces. Which was Held at the iconic Khetarpal Parade Ground in NDA Khadakwasla, this parade was not just a ceremonial event. It was a celebration of grit, change, and historic achievement. 17 Brave Daughters of India created history in NDA’s 148th Batch passing out of the first-ever batch of female cadets from the NDA.
The Glorious 148th Course : A Class Apart
The 148th Course of the NDA stood out for multiple reasons. A total of 1,287 cadets marched with precision, discipline, and pride during the grand POP ceremony. Among them, 336 cadets belonged to the passing out batch. Those who completed three years of rigorous military training and academic education and are now ready to lead from front.
The ceremony was reviewed by General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd), PVSM, AVSM, YSM, and the Honourable Governor of Mizoram. As a former Chief of Army Staff and decorated officer, his presence added tremendous value and honour to the parade.
But what truly made this occasion historic was the passing out of the first-ever batch of 17 female cadets from the NDA. These brave young women scripted a new chapter in the Academy’s proud legacy, symbolising the transformation of the Indian Armed Forces into a more inclusive and progressive institution.
The Journey of Change : How It All Began
NDA was exclusive to male candidates before 2021. However, in 2021, the Supreme Court of India delivered a historic judgement allowing women to appear for the NDA entrance examination and receive military training at par with men. The Armed Forces responded swiftly, updating policies and infrastructure to welcome the first group of female cadets in December 2021.
The 17 young women who passed out with the 148th Course were pioneers. Over three years, they underwent the same physically and mentally demanding training as their male counterparts learning drill, weapons training, academics, outdoor survival, leadership skills, and more. Despite the challenges, they stood firm, motivated by their dream to wear the uniform and serve the tricolour.
Their success is not just a personal achievement. It is a national moment of pride. It reflects the strength of India’s daughters and the commitment of the Armed Forces to merit, discipline, and equality.
Milestones and Individual Achievements
Among the 17 female cadets, one name that stood out was Cadet Shriti Daksh, who topped the Arts stream in academics. Her performance is a shining example of how women can not only match their male counterparts but also lead from the front.
This batch also saw increased participation from all corners of India. Cadets hailed from small towns, villages, cities, and different social and economic backgrounds united by a single dream to “serve the nation”.
The inclusion of women in NDA is not merely symbolic. It is a statement that the Indian Armed Forces are evolving, expanding opportunities based on competence and dedication, not gender.
A Parade That Inspired the Nation
As the cadets marched past the reviewing officer in perfect unison, their crisp uniforms and proud salutes moved the audience. For the parents, it was a proud moment. For the military fraternity, it was a sign of changing times. And for the country, it was a powerful message that India believes in empowering its youth, regardless of gender.
General V.K. Singh, in his address, acknowledged the immense significance of the occasion. He praised the cadets for their hard work and dedication and reminded them of their duties as future officers of the Indian Armed Forces. “You are the future of India’s military strength. Always uphold the values of integrity, courage, and loyalty,” he said.
