Government Prepares to Absorb 42% of First Batch of Retiring Agniveers in 2026-27 into Government Jobs
The Indian government is preparing to offer government jobs to 42% of the first batch of Agniveers, set to retire between 2026 and 2027. This initiative is aimed at providing opportunities for those Agniveers who will not be absorbed into the Indian Armed Forces after completing their initial term of service.
Status of the Agniveers
The first batch of Agniveers comprises approximately 100,000 soldiers, out of which 25,000 will be regularized into the armed forces. This means that around 75,000 Agniveers, or 75% of the batch, will need to be absorbed into other government ministries or departments. These opportunities are likely to include positions in paramilitary forces and various other government services.
42% Agniveers to Secure Government Jobs
As part of the plan, around 31,500 Agniveers (42% of those not absorbed into the military) will be provided with government jobs across different departments. This is a significant opportunity for the retiring soldiers, offering them a secure career path even after their military service concludes.
Inclusion in the Air Force
Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh recently expressed a desire to induct more than 25% of Agniveers into the Indian Air Force, indicating that the integration of Agniveers into various security forces is set to expand.
This plan to offer job opportunities to retiring Agniveers marks an important step in securing their future. Not only will it ensure their skills are utilized in service to the country, but it will also contribute to national security and service through various government roles.
